At Brookside Animal
Hospital we firmly believe in Preventative Care
for your pet. This includes annual wellness exams, dental care,
proper life stage nutrition, and vaccinations.
WELLNESS EXAMS
We recommend an annual physical exam for pets of
all ages. Dr. Hughes performs a comprehensive physical exam
consisting of checking ears, oral exam, listening to heart and lungs,
palpating the abdomen, obtaining temperature, and giving any annual
vaccines that are due.
Animals’ age much more rapidly than people and
some age related diseases caught early can often be controlled
through medication and/or dietary changes.
VACCINATIONS
We recommend vaccinating your pet annually to
prevent disease and illness; this will help to keep your pet as
healthy as possible. If you have any questions regarding vaccines,

SURGERY
We are well equipped to perform all routine
surgeries for your pet (example: spay and castration). We have a
modern surgery suite where we perform a wide range of non- routine
surgeries. If needed, we will provide a referral to an appropriate
specialist for your pet. Please see our Pet-Care page for more
details regarding the safety measures our team provides if the need
arises for your pet to undergo surgery.
DENTISTRY
Most pets will eventually need a professional
dental cleaning using an ultrasonic scaler, such as your dentist
might use. The dental procedure includes polishing the teeth to
reduce the recurrence of tarter buildup. We also use a subgingival
lavage with a chlorhexidine solution to flush and kill bacteria. A
professional dental cleaning will help prevent periodontal disease as
well as greatly increasing quality of life. Our team takes the same
safety precautions mentioned above during dental procedures as we do

RADIOLOGY
Our facility has a modern radiology suite that is
equipped to perform radiographs as needed.
MICROCHIP IDENTIFICATION
We offer the Home Again microchip
identification for dogs and cats. We highly recommend microchip
identification for your beloved pet. In the unfortunate event your
pet would become lost, the microchip increases the chances they are
more likely to be returned to you.
BOARDING
We offer boarding for dogs, cats, and exotics that
are current clients. Because we don’t board a large number of pets
our space does fill fast, especially during the holidays. We suggest
you make your reservations well in advance. The only requirement is
that all vaccines are current. Please contact us for more
