Cat Vaccines

Feline Distemper

The first vaccine we recommend giving to prevent four different diseases.

Feline Panleukopenia- (Feline distemper)- this disease is one of the most widespread of all diseases.  This disease is very contagious.

Signs include: Fever, loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea

Feline Viral Rhinotrachitis- This is also highly contagious.  This disease is a respiratory disease.

Signs include: loss of appetite, fever, and eye inflammation.

Feline Calicivirus-This is another respiratory disease.

Signs include: Fever, loss of appetite, nasal discharge, and some may have ulcers on their tongue.

Feline Pneumonitis (Chyamydia)- This is a respiratory disease.  Signs are very similar to the calicivirus and the rhinotrachitis diseases

Signs include: sneezing, fever, loss of appetite, nasal discharge, and inflamed eyes.

Feline Leukemia

The last vaccine that we recommend and is also required by the county is a Rabies vaccine.  The rabies virus attacks the brain and central nervous system.  This virus can be transmitted to humans, most commonly through bite wounds.

Signs include: depression, lethargy, withdrawn, and neuralgic signs.

Here is what we offer to protect you cats and kittens

We recommend giving you cat 2 yearly vaccines.  Feline Distemper and Feline Leukemia.  Rabies is required by law in Butler County, but after the first vaccine it is only given every 3 years.

Feline Leukemia: is a viral disease which can show up in many different forms and there is no treatment.  Some cats show little to no symptoms ranging from persistant respiratory infections to vomiting and diarrhea, weight loss and fever.  Cats with this viral disease will eventually succumb to it.
